Comunicación y cortesía verbal en la interacción entre españoles e indios en el siglo XVII

Abstract

This paper, a contribution to be located within Spanish historical pragmatics, explores politeness strategies in a 17th century text, Vocabulario manual by Pedro de Arenas. The vast array of communicative situations in this text provides an interesting corpus to investigate some aspects of the linguistic encoding of social relationships between colonizers and colonized in 17th century Mexico.
