Abstract
In this article is valued the underground presence of Dante in La Celestina. To explain this presence, alternative paths are proposed to the conventional identification of sources in order to understand the literary and interpretative models that operate in the composition of La Celestina and thus configure the presence of a Dante mediato. This is based on the diffusion of Dante in the Iberian Peninsula during the Fifteenth Century, its confluence with the study of Virgil and Seneca and its appropriation on the part of Castilian learned poetry and vernacular ethics. The tour closes with a parallel reading of the Castilian translation of Seneca’s Medea and the infernal spell of the Third act of La Celestina. The literary culture of the so-called «first author» and of Fernando de Rojas is shown, in the light of this study, firmly rooted in the conventions and textual experiments of the second half of the Fifteenth Century, whose traditional background is resolved as the guarantor of the permanent nerve of Rojas text.
