«Punzantes notas de los pájaros cantores». Tormento by Galdós and the forms of melodrama

Abstract

Starting from the theoretical studies on the relationship between realism and melodrama in 19th century, the article proposes an analysis of Tormento,
a novel published by Galdós in 1984. In addition to showing the importance of the folletín for the development of the novel, the article highlights the attitude of the writer who recovers the most characteristic feature of melodrama: the connection between text and music.
