Abstract

«Lo secret de Carmesina». Female desire in Tirant lo Blanch

The originality of Tirant lo Blanch imposes itself on many different levels and it’s not limited to the particular narrative language used. Unlike other works of the chivalric tradition, Martorell uses new words also ‘to talk about desire’: he uses direct, frank words, unmediated. The only mediation he accepts in many circumstances is the one offered by the female protagonists and co-protagonists of the work. Among the narrative moments of erotic tension stand out the pages dedicated to Plaerdemavida, which moves at the court of Constantinople instilling infusing around her is a solid epicurean spirit.
