Abstract

This article offers a new critical approach to the author’s variants present in Juan de Jáuregui’s Aminta, a translation of the pastoral fable by Torquato Tasso, incorporated into his Rimas in 1618. Through the investigation of a series of cases, it aims to describe the corrective lines leading the revision process of the first version of the Aminta, published in Rome in 1607. Moreover, the paper also identifies the characterizing constant of this process. Therefore, the study examines specific interventions (substitutions, deletions, lexical changes) and remodellings of textual sequences involving the insertion of poetic material foreign to the original. The analysis of these elements reveals, on several occasions, the influence of classical and modern sources, definitively highlighting that Jáuregui’s guiding intent is to achieve greater adherence to the original text, which is expressed both in the syntagmatic plane and in the paradigmatic fruition of the text.

Key words: Aminta, author’s variants, Jáuregui, translation.
