Abstract
Don Quixote’s penitence in Sierra Morena, his encounter with cardenio, a man in love and driven to madness, and his book of memories, provoke within our hidalgo the desire to communicate with Dulcinea through a series of letters. Sancho’s failed embassy results in the apocryphal encounter with the village women of toboso, a spell that culminates in the atemporal cave of Montesinos with don Quixote’s infernal dream: Dulcinea, enchanted, asks him for money through her lady.
